Tottenham are one of a whole host of Premier League clubs eyeing a move for an Argentine starlet who has been likened to former Real Madrid star Angel di Maria.

Spurs still lacking a killer out wide?

While Ange Postecoglou has plenty of options for the wide areas, some Spurs fans will feel that it is an area of the pitch where the Lilywhites are lacking a little quality.

That is particularly true now that Dejan Kulusevski has shifted to the middle. Wilson Odobert has had a promising start to his Spurs career, but the youngster is only 19 years of age while Brennan Johnson is still on the path to adding consistency to his game.

With Timo Werner also struggling in his outings this season, that is an area that Postecoglou could be tempted to strengthen in January.

Spurs could look to South American starlet

TBR Football reveal that one player who has caught Tottenham’s eye is Velez Sarsfield youngster Thiago Fernandez.

The 20-year-old has been catching the eye in the Primera Division this season and the report says that many have even likened the youngster to Di Maria, given his ability to cut in from the flank and score goals.

The outlet points out that the wide-man will be on his way to Europe sooner rather than later, with the Premier League appearing to be his most likely destination at the moment.

Space facing plenty of competition

TBR Football say that along with Tottenham, Manchester United, Liverpool, and Chelsea are plotting a move for Fernandez.

In addition, Aston Villa, Brentford, and Brighton are also said to be keeping a close eye on the winger’s development.

Fernandez has scored five goals and registered eight assists in 30 games across all competitions this season and he is contracted to Velez Sarsfield until December 2025 (Transfermarkt).
