Colden man charged after attempting to steal tires at West Herr
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Colden man is facing several charges after he allegedly tried to steal tires off of cars at the West Herr Kia store in Orchard Park and then tried to flee officers, the Orchard Park Police Department said Monday.
Joshua Kessel, 29, is accused of attempting to steal tires and rims off of cars from the store, located on Southwestern Boulevard, around 4:20 a.m. Saturday.
Police said that officers gave him verbal commands, but he got into his car and attempted to flee. He allegedly hit four parked cars and nearly hit two officers. A tire then fell off the vehicle and Kessel ran into a wooded area.
The wooded area was searched and Kessel eventually came out of the woods and was arrested.
He is charged with the following:
- two counts, menacing a police officer
- attempted aggravated assault of a police officer
- second-degree attempted assault
- attempted grand larceny
- reckless endangerment
- second-degree obstructing governmental administration
- fourth-degree criminal mischief
- third-degree auto stripping
- trespass
- multiple vehicle and traffic infractions
Kessel was arraigned and transported to the Erie County Holding Center where he was held on $7,500 cash or $25,000 bond.
