Emmerdale fans left seething as they point out major plot hole and slam ITV bosses for ‘ruining’ important storyline

0

EMMERDALE fans have been left raging after scenes in Monday night’s episode of the ITV soap which reveals Tom King is recovering in hospital.

In shocking scenes on the ITV soap last week, Tom (James Chase) was stabbed in the back with an axe by his ex-wife Belle Dingle (Eden Taylor-Draper).

Despite the force of the blow, Tom survived the ordeal and is now recovering in hospital with his teenage girlfriend, Amelia Spencer (Daisy Campbell), waiting at his bedside.

As this ongoing ordeal came to a huge head, Emmerdale fans have been seething, notably calling out the ITV soap for “ruining” this important domestic violence storyline, which has been made worse by a huge blunder.

Spotting the error straight away, one viewer said on X, formerly Twitter: “If you’ve had an axe embedded in your back and then they’ve operated on you, would they put you in bed lying on your back??”

While another viewer admitted they were shocked that he survived at all. “How many people have ever been chopped in half by an axe and survived?” they asked.

Soap fans than piled on with their disappointment at the way this storyline has panned out.

“Anyone else kind of feel they have ruined all the hard work they did by doing this with Belle and Tom?” one fan asked.

“This is completely ruining the DV storyline. What an absolute shambles,” added another.

A third criticised: “I feel like they’re making a mockery out of the whole DV storyline now. they’re just letting tom get away with it all and I’m sick of it. This isn’t showing real victims that they can get justice.”

Emmerdale viewers have watched on for months as Tom has tormented and abused his wife Belle.

Over recent weeks, the abuse has become increasingly violent with him even killing her beloved dog Piper on purpose.

He also put hidden cameras in her cottage to keep tabs on her.

After discovering the cameras, Belle wrestled with whether or not she should go to the police before finally deciding to report Tom’s abuse.

During Thursday’s episode, on the day that she had planned to report her harrowing ordeal, Belle was left being terrorised by Tom King once again as he unleashed fury on her after finally coming face-to-face with her once again after weeks apart.

In scary scenes, Tom was chased by Belle as he became hell-bent on causing her even more pain.

Darkest soap storylines

Over the years the likes of EastEndersEmmerdale and Coronation Street have all tried to try outdo each other with their outlandish plots in a bid to keep us tuning in each week. But here are some of the darkest that had fans in shock…

  • EastEnders: Tony grooming Whitney (2008-2009) – Tony King first appeared in Albert Square in 2008 as the boyfriend of Bianca, played by Patsy Palmer. But it was quickly revealed he was a paedophile who had been grooming vulnerable Whitney, Bianca’s adopted stepdaughter from a previous relationship, since she was 12. The shocking storyline attracted more than 200 complaints within a week of it beginning. Whitney waited until her 16th birthday to reveal the truth to a horrified Bianca, who called the police.
  • Emmerdale: Holly’s drug addiction and shock death (2010-2016) – In 2010, Holly Barton (played by Sophie Powles) became Emmerdale’s first teenage drug addict. The shocking storyline saw her taking cocaine on a night out before developing a deadly heroin habit. Parents John and Moira desperately tried to help get their daughter clean but when Holly returned in 2016, following a four-year absence, she quickly relapsed. Fans were left stunned and heartbroken when distraught Moira found Holly dead in her bed from a heroin overdose.
  • Hollyoaks: Luke’s rape (2000) – Actor Gary Lucy was just 17 when he took on this groundbreaking storyline, which saw his character Luke Morgan become soap’s first male rape victim. Luke had endured a long-running bullying campaign by football rival Mark Gibbs – who raped him after Luke stood up to him. Luke was left suicidal following the brutal attack, before opening up to his brother Adam. Gibbs was sentenced to eight years in prison. Gary won the Best Actor gong at the British Soap Awards in 2000 for his performance.
  • Coronation Street: Evil Richard Hillman (2001-2003) – Just a mere mention of ‘Richard Hillman’ is enough to send a shiver down the spines of soap fans. He is often ranked one of the most evil soap villains and it’s not hard to see why. The smooth-talking financial adviser bashed his ex-wife Patricia over the head with a shovel. In a bid to keep his mother-in-law Audrey quiet, he set fire to her house. And when Maxine caught him trying to murder Emily Bishop, he took a crowbar to her head. He made his exit from the cobbles in 2003 when he drove Gail Platt, played by Helen Worth, and her family into the canal. They survived, but he didn’t.
  • At one stage, Tom spotted her lurking through an open window and as she realised she had been caught, she soon began to block the door as best she could in order to stop Tom from entering.

Tom then rattled at the door as he begged Belle to let him in before he furiously shouted: “Let me in, Belle! Oh, come on, you stupid b***h and open this door!”

In a scene that resembled The Shining, Tom then began to tear the door down by ploughing an axe into it with Belle stood sharply to the side.

She let out a panicking wail as she screamed in fear at what Tom was about to do.

Later, as Tom strolled around the room planning his next move, Belle was able to get her hands on the axe as she ploughed it into his back, leaving him for dead.

Tom has survived the ordeal – but will this narrow escape be enough to make him stay away from Belle? Or will he be out for revenge once more?

And will Belle finally go to the police about Tom’s abuse?
