Jackson Named SEC Player and Defensive Player of the Week
After helping lead Arkansas to two victories in its first pair of SEC matches, senior libero Courtney Jackson has been named the conference Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week.
The honor is the second Defensive Player of the Week nod for Arkansas this season and first for Jackson. She’s been named Defensive Player of the Week one other time in her career, and it’s the first time earning both defensive and overall player accolades.
Jackson has been playing at an outstanding level all season so far, which became even more evident in the first two matches of conference play. She tallied 6.13 digs per set in Arkansas’ victories over Georgia and Ole Miss last week, which pushed her over 1,500 in her career (1,536). Courtney currently tops the SEC in digs per set with 4.92, comes in second among Power 4 players, and is 19th nationally.
She also contributed to other area of the box score in the two matches. Jackson had 17 total assists, 12 in the team’s conference opener against Georgia, her fourth double-double of the season. Coming into last week, Jackson had only registered two kills in the previous three seasons but added one apiece in each match to double her career count to four, unconventional for a libero.
Courtney and the Razorbacks continue conference play this week with their first-ever SEC contest with the Oklahoma Sooners. The match is set for 2 p.m. Sunday in Norman, Okla. and will be streamed live on SEC Network+.
