Mobley will be in training camp with Philly.

It was announced on Monday morning that Isaiah Mobley has signed an Exhibit 10 deal with the Philadelphia 76ers via ESPN’s Tim Bontemps. Since being drafted 49th in 2022 by the Cleveland Cavaliers, Mobley had not seen much NBA action, primarily suiting up for the Cleveland Charge. Mobley saw 22 appearances in two seasons with the Cavs.

Mobley was a constant presence during his time with the Charge. He was a G League All-Star in 2022-23 averaging 21.5 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 3.8 assists. Mobley has the problem of being too talented for the G League, yet not being able to have his skills translate to the NBA. At 6’8” he cannot play center which is where he spent his time in the G League. He is also too offensively limited to play the four in the NBA which is where he would best fit.

If Mobley is going to make his mark in the NBA he needs to fully understand and learn how to build his game around being a power forward. If Mobley can get his three-point shot to fall consistently things can open up for him offensively. In his limited time with the wine and gold Mobley shot 33% from three on low volume. There have also been flashes of the connective tissue gene that his brother Evan also has.

Mobley spoke on the opportunity and what he hopes to achieve: “Just to learn a lot. This Philly team has a lot of vets. . . . Just be a sponge, soak all of that up, and then contribute with all of the skills I think I can bring.”

Mobley will be fighting for a two-way contract with the 76ers. It appears that he will most likely play for their G League affiliate the Delaware Blue Coats. The 76ers are looking to develop depth at power forward. If Mobley stands out and the 76ers develop him properly, he can find his way into the league again.
