Uttar Pradesh Fake Kidnapping: In a bizarre incident, a young man in Amroha district of Uttar Pradesh, faked his own kidnapping in a bid to ransom money from his family. According to the police, the accused, identified as 23-year-old Nazim, with the help of his friend, Amit, faked his abduction, and sent a video of his ‘kidnapping’ to his cousin’s phone, and sent texts to other family members, demanding a ransom of Rs 25 lakh.

In the video of Nazim’s fake kidnapping, he is seen lying on the floor in a room with his hands and legs tied up with a rope.

As per the police, Nazim sent the ‘kidnapping’ video to his cousin and sent several text messages to brother-in-law, Shaukeen, demanding Rs 25 lakh for his release.

The incident came to light after Nazim’s father, Arif, filed a police complaint after the ransom demand, stating that his son had been kidnapped and the ‘kidnappers’ had demanded money to secure his release.

A senior official said police registered a case on the father complaint and swung into action, solving the case in just eight hours as three teams were formed to trace Nazim and ‘rescue’ him.

The investigation led the police to Najibabad where they ‘rescued’ Nazim and arrested his friend Amit. However, during questioning, Nazim cracked and revealed he and Amit had plotted his fake kidnapping in an attempt to extract money from his family as he was facing financial difficulties.

“Amroha police solved fake kidnapping case in just 8 hours. Two friends suffering from financial crisis created a fake story of kidnapping of their friend (Nazim) to earn money. They demanded 25 lakh rupees,” the police said in a statement.

The duo have been arrested and booked under relevant sections of the law, police, adding that further investigation in the case is underway.
