SOUTH GLENS FALLS, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- A South Glens Falls woman pleaded guilty to fourth-degree arson in Saratoga County Court on Friday. Desirae Sauter, 39, was arrested back in March.
Police and fire officials responded to a house fire on Second Street in South Glens Falls on March 2 around 6:40 a.m. that investigations found to have started intentionally. Police said an investigation found Sauter to be in an argument with a man who lived in the home and lit a pile of the man's clothes on fire with a propane torch, causing damage to the bedroom floor.
A 12-year-old child was in the home when Sauter started the fire, struggling to breathe because of the smoke. Police said Sauter extinguished the fire before they arrived on the scene.
Sauter is scheduled to be sentenced on Dec. 3 at 10 a.m. in Saratoga County Court. In New York State, fourth-degree arson can carry a sentence of up to four years in prison, probation, or a split sentence.
