Hillsboro owner's offer: Return stolen trucks, get a job

HILLSBORO, Ore. (KOIN) -- Michael Veis is a single dad of three kids with a new business that, like many new businesses, has its struggles.

"We have water containers, food containers, just for any emergency," said Veis of his business, The Little Shed: Prepping America. "We sell cargo containers and farm equipment, pretty much stuff to be self-sufficient and off-the-grid."

But sometime between last Thursday night and early Friday morning, Veis' truck, trailer and landscaping tractor were all stolen off his lot.

"That's the lifeline of my business is that skid steer and my trailer, not including the two other trucks that were stolen," he told KOIN 6 News.

With the help of volunteers from PDX Stolen Cars, Veis got his truck back Monday morning. But a few things are out of place.

The thieves, he said, did more damage on one side of the truck than the other and caused some damage in the front.

"This is like my office," he said. "I'm a work-from-home guy."

The Washington County Sheriff's Office is continuing to investigate, but Veis said he's already had offers from neighbors to help in any way they can.

"It took my frown and definitely turned it upside down, because it was a rough couple of days," he said.

The community's support gave him hope.

"I don't need to have everyone thrown in jail for their wrongs," Veis said. "But if they want to do right, then they can bring my skid steer and trailer here."

And he said if whoever stole his equipment wants to work, he's willing to help them -- out if they bring the equipment back.
