Scholarship Programme Update

Scholarship Programme Club photographer Kevin Morrison called in to get a few snaps recently as Derry City’s new Scholarship Programme continues under the guidance of Mark McChrystal.

Ten participants are currently mixing their football training with an educational twist that will hopefully see them emerge with a BTEC Level 3 Qualification in Sports Coaching, Development and Fitness.

A number of clubs in both the north and south are running similar programmes at present as they look to offer additional opportunities and support to young players who may be interested in other facets of the game.

Mark, who has enjoyed a successful playing career both in the UK and Ireland, said the programme would provide a pathway for young players to develop both on and off the pitch.

“We are currently into Week 3 of the programme and the lads have settled in really well and they are enjoying the experience.

“This programme will provide them with an introduction into full-time football whilst continuing their education, which I think is very important for them.
