Casa SB
Casa SB is a minimalist home located in Madrid, Spain, designed by estudio DIIR. The project revolves around creating an open and adaptable space defined by a streamlined layout and a relaxed atmosphere. The design strategy distinctly separates private and public areas, situating more intimate functions deeper within the floor plan, while communal spaces are oriented towards the street. This arrangement maximizes space and results in a clear, unbroken square layout that dissolves traditional boundaries. At the heart of the home is a versatile central area that serves as a hub for social interaction. Anchoring this space are two prominent features: a substantial steel kitchen island and a spacious sofa.
These elements, while commanding in presence, are carefully positioned to allow free movement around them, fostering a dynamic flow and encouraging spontaneous use of the surrounding space. The intention is to create a welcoming environment that can comfortably accommodate large gatherings. Material choices are refined and deliberately limited to emphasize their individual characteristics. The walls are finished with smooth mortar, and the ceiling is acoustically treated, creating a balanced and understated backdrop. Solid pine flooring extends throughout the home, adding warmth and cohesiveness. Bold accents are introduced through the use of Indian green marble in the bathrooms and stainless steel in custom-designed pieces such as the kitchen island and cabinetry, lending the interiors a distinctive yet cohesive aesthetic.
