Hashem Safieddine reportedly appointed as new Hezbollah leader
Arabic media have reported that Hashem Safieddine has been appointed as the new leader of the Hezbollah militant group, according to a decision by the group’s leadership council.
Al Arabiya, citing informed sources, reported on Monday morning, September 30, that Hashem Safieddine had been chosen as the new leader of Hezbollah the previous day.
Lebanon 24 also published a similar report, stating that Hashem Safieddine, a maternal relative of Hassan Nasrallah and head of Hezbollah’s political affairs, has been named Nasrallah’s successor.
Hezbollah has yet to release an official statement regarding the appointment of a new leader. In its most recent declaration, the group mentioned that any news concerning organizational actions following Hassan Nasrallah’s death is unreliable until an official announcement is made.
Hashem Safieddine, who is reported by Arab media to be the new leader of Hezbollah, is known for his close ties with the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Safieddine’s appointment marks a significant shift within Hezbollah’s leadership if confirmed. His close affiliation with Iran could further influence Hezbollah’s strategic direction, particularly regarding regional alliances and military policies.
International observers will closely monitor this leadership change, as it may impact Lebanon’s political and security dynamics and the Middle East.
