Mid Game Surge Leads K-State to Win Over Cowboys
Oklahoma State's football team gave up 35 straight points and lost to Kansas State 42-20 at Bill Snyder Family Stadium in Manhattan, Kansas, on Saturday.
Kansas State quarterback Avery Johnson threw three touchdown passes and ran for two scores to lead the Wildcats, while running back D.J. Giddens added 187 yards rushing and a touchdown.
Johnson was 19-for-31 passing for 259 yards, and ran for 60 yards on 5 carries.
OSU committed three turnovers, which led to 14 Wildcat points.
Two of those three OSU turnovers were interceptions by Alan Bowman, who finished 26-for-50 for 364 yards.
OSU running back Ollie Gordon was held to 76 yards rushing on 15 carries.
OSU receiver De'Zhaun Stribling was the offensive star for the Cowboys, with 7 catches for 157 yards.
Kansas State got the ball to start the game and marched 75 yards in 14 plays, with quarterback Avery Johnson scrambling to his right for an 11-yard touchdown to put the Wildcats up 7-0 with 9:17 to play in the first quarter.
Oklahoma State answered with a productive drive.
Alan Bowman passed to De'Zhaun Stribling for 22 yards, and Ollie Gordon gained 24 yards on a run.
OSU had to settle for a 35-yard field goal by Logan Ward to trim the K-State lead to 7-3 with 5:36 to play in the first quarter.
K-State had to punt on their ensuing possession, and OSU responded with a long, time-consuming drive.
Gordon gained 27 yards on a run to the end the first quarter.
The drive stalled inside the Wildcat 20-yard line, then Ward missed a 34-yard field goal wide right, keeping the score 7-3 with 12:32 to play in the second quarter.
The Wildcats punted after just three downs, and OSU took just two plays to score.
On a flea flicker, Bowman passed to a wide open Stribling for a 77-yard touchdown down the right sideline and OSU led 10-7 with 10:07 left in the first half.
Kansas State turned the ball back to OSU on the next snap, as Johnson overthrew his intended receiver and Korie Black intercepted at the Wildcat 33-yard line.
The Cowboys couldn't move the ball from there and settled for a 31-yard field goal by Ward to make it 13-7 OSU with 7:30 to play in the second quarter.
K-State answered with a scoring drive that took just two plays and 71 yards.
D.J. Giddens gained 37 yards on a run and a horse collar penalty on Trey Rucker advanced the ball to the Cowboys' 19.
On the next play, Johnson passed to a wide open Garrett Oakley in the end zone for a 19-yard touchdown to put the Wildcats back on top 14-13 with 6:58 left in the first half.
OSU moved into K-State territory on their ensuing possession, but Bowman was not able to pick up a low shotgun snap, and Colby McCalister recovered for the Wildcats at their own 31-yard line.
Kansas State took just four plays to convert the turnover into points, going 69 yards to add to their lead, with Johnson passing to a wide open Jayce Brown for a 55-yard touchdown.
The extra point gave K-State a 21-13 lead with 3:18 to play in the second quarter.
Oklahoma State went three-and-out and punted on the first possession of the second half.
K-State took just two plays to score on their first second half possession, going 73 yards in just 50 seconds to extend the lead.
Giddens scored on a 66-yard touchdown run to make it 28-13 Wildcats with 13:07 to play in the third quarter.
OSU moved the ball on their ensuing possession, but Bowman was intercepted by Marques Sigle at the K-State 30-yard line.
Both teams' next two possessions ended in punts, then K-State extended their lead.
The Wildcats went 73 yards in six plays to a touchdown.

On the next play, Johnson used a jump pass to Will Anciaux for a 2-yard touchdown to make it 35-13 Cats with 1:57 left in the third quarter.
The Cowboys were moving the ball again, but on a deep pass to the end zone, Bowman was intercepted by Jacob Parrish for a touchback with 16 seconds left in the third quarter.
K-State then marched 80 yards in 9 plays, with Johnson scrambling for a 13-yard touchdown to make it 42-13 Wildcats with 11:26 left.
OSU could not get a first down on their ensuing possession, with Sesi Vailahi running it four times and coming up short on 4th and 1 from the OSU 34.
The two teams combined for three straight punts following that possession.
The Cowboys finally broke out of their offensive slump, going 69 yards in eight plays to score.
Trent Howland scored on a 14-yard touchdown run to finish the drive, making it 42-20 KSU with 1:52 to play.
Oklahoma State falls to 3-2 overall, and are 0-2 in conference play for the first time since Mike Gundy's first season as head coach in 2005.
OSU has lost 11 of their last 14 games in Manhattan.
The Cowboys host West Virginia next Saturday at 3:00 pm.
