Man sentenced to life in prison for Mount Vernon double murder

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (WCMH) – A man charged in a double murder that occurred last month has changed his plea and was given a lifetime sentence, according to court records.

Documents with the Knox County Court of Common Pleas show that Cameron Moore, 24, pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated murder. The plea was reached one month after the case was bound over from Mount Vernon Municipal Court.

Moore waived his right to a trial by jury and entered a plea of guilty on Tuesday. He was immediately sentenced to life in prison, with no possibility of parole, on both murder charges.

The charges stem from a welfare check on Aug. 14, in which officers visited an apartment in the 100 block of South Gay Street in Mount Vernon. Police found two adults, one man and one woman, dead inside the residence.

Police did not release any information on the circumstances surrounding their deaths, but later announced that Moore was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated murder.

Mount Vernon police said Moore acted alone and that no other individuals appeared to be involved. The victim’s names continue to be withheld until the family gives consent to their release or other judicial proceedings are made public.
