Grey skies and lumpy seas
Hello Friends,
Although the wind swung to the west around 0630, the effects of a day or two of ESE wind weren’t immediately erased. As you can see from pictures taken at around 0900, surface conditions are still messy and lumpy, but on the positive side, there’s still swell. According to the 0800 MHL data, the main energy is now coming from the NE. Swell heights at sea were 2.8 metres at 11 seconds.
The Bureau tells us that wind will go around to the NE as the day goes along, it will continue showery and then tomorrow the wind swings first N-NW and then southerly ramps up into the 25-30 kt range and the declining NE swell is joined by a small south pulse. There may be windows of opportunity on Monday, but I think you’ll have to be lucky. And right now, Tuesday is shaping to be SW on the wind front with swell fluxing between a weakening south and a small, but increasing east component. Lots of moving parts but again, there might be the odd gem to be found. Wednesday doesn’t look too exciting, but if the more hopeful models are right, from as early as Thursday right through the weekend could see a tasty combo of morning offshores and fun-size SE swell…
Stay tuned, and have yourself a top old Sunday!
Weather Situation
A low pressure system off the South Queensland coast is producing strong south to southeasterly winds along the northern coast while a high ridging through Bass Strait and out to the Tasman Sea will produce moderate to fresh southeast to northeasterly winds along the southern coast. The winds along the northern coast will gradually ease today as the low moves away, whereas the winds along the southern coast will tend fresh to strong north to northeasterly as a cold front approaches from the west. The front sweeps through the region on Monday, bringing a strong and gusty southerly change.
