Bassett to the four as good run continues

0

Despite falling behind, Royal Wootton Bassett Town recorded an emphatic 4-1 home victory against Lydney Town to make it four games unbeaten in the Hellenic League Premier Division.

Sam Collier's side have now taken ten of the last twelve points available to them. And after a testing first month and a half of the new campaign, their current run has proven to be just what was needed with Bassett now up to eighth.

There's still work to do to close the gap to the sides above the them as Bassett aim for another playoff finish.

But that now seems like a much less demanding task when compared to the situation Collier and his team found themselves in before kicking off this run with victory at rivals Highworth Town.

Against Lydney, Bassett were forced to come from behind but were ultimately clear and deserved winners.

They conceded some twenty minutes in after being caught overplaying at the back with Daniel Brain teeing up Sam Wines for the visitors' goal.

Almost immediately, however, Bassett were level. And they equalised in style, Brad Pagliaroli twisting his way towards goal before firing a fierce strike from the edge of the area into the top right corner.

The hosts were then soon ahead as leading scorer Alfie Presley registered his first of the afternoon.

Bassett were in control of the match, but unable to extend their advantage any further before the break.

But they pulled away in the second half.

Presley made it 3-1 from the spot. Substitute Tom Moore then completed the scoring, finishing well into the bottom corner after the ball fell to him in the box.
