Penguins/Red Wings game postponed due to Pittsburgh’s travel issues
First announced as a delay, game won’t be played on Saturday at all
Travel issues for the Penguins have forced a postponement of the scheduled game tonight in Detroit. The Red Wings first announced the game was postponed from its 7:00pm start back to 8:30 and then made a second announcement to scrub the game from today altogether.

The Penguins released a statement that said their plane experienced mechanical issues and they were unable to make it to Detroit in time to play tonight.

The Pens practiced this morning at their facility north of Pittsburgh. It tends to be common for NHL teams to travel the day of games in the preseason, unlike the regular season where they pad in more time to arrive at their destinations.
There was no makeup date announced, but the Red Wings used the word “postponed” and not canceled. Pittsburgh has a mostly separate group of players scheduled to be in Sudbury tomorrow. Their social media channels showed some of them getting on a plane today.
But as for tonight, no hockey or chance to see the Pens in action today due to the travel issues suffered. Just another day in the preseason life.
