Twig Chair

Twig Chair is a minimalist chair created by New York-based practice Yuxuan Huang Studio. Her work often draws from deconstructed, found materials, exploring the intersection of functionality, artistry, and memory. In her designs, Huang reinterprets simple forms, allowing them to express forgotten stories and a sense of play. One of her latest pieces, the Twig Chair, is crafted entirely from Baltic Birch Plywood. The chair emphasizes the understated beauty of this common material, highlighting its intricate grain patterns revealed through CNC milling. As the laminated plywood is shaped, the birch’s natural contours emerge, echoing the rings of a tree’s growth. The chair’s minimalist design, inspired by both waterfalls and the human form, serves as a metaphor for the relationship between humanity and nature. Through its form and material, the Twig Chair invites reflection on the interaction between the natural world and industrial processes.
