New Delhi: Two semifinal finishes and a runners-up trophy in the last three editions, the Indian team will be aiming for their maiden Women’s T20 World Cup in Dubai when the tournament gets underway on October 3. The Women T20 World Cup 2024 was initially scheduled to take place in Bangladesh but due to safety reasons caused by political unrest, the ICC was forced to shift the event to the Middle East.

Led by Harmanpreet Kaur and with Smriti Mandhana as deputy, the Women in Blue enter the tournament as one of the title contenders. Unfortunately, the Indian team are entering the competition without much preparation in recent times. India’s last T20I in 2024 came six months back in March against Sri Lanka in Bangladesh.

In fact, India have played only seven T20Is this year, winning four and losing thrice. Having said that, the Indian team will play two warm-up games against West Indies (September 29) and South Africa (October 1) before they start their campaign in the tournament. India are placed in Group A alongside Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.
