Russia, China, Iran and Pakistan hold key talks on Afghanistan
Top officials from Russia, China, Iran, and Pakistan met on Friday during the 79th session of the UN General Assembly in New York to discuss the situation in Afghanistan.
The Russian foreign ministry stated that the countries compared their strategies for resolving the Afghan issue.
This meeting marked the third foreign ministerial gathering of the regional quartet focused on Afghanistan.
Pakistan was represented by its Defense Minister, Khawaja Asif, at the meeting.
The officials also discussed regional security concerns and the potential threats posed by terrorism in Afghanistan.
They reiterated their commitment to ensuring that Afghanistan does not become a safe haven for terrorist groups.
“No alternative to establishing mutually respectful dialogue and partnership relations with the current authorities of Afghanistan,” according to the statement.
The meeting highlighted the importance of collaboration among neighboring countries to ensure stability in Afghanistan. The officials stressed that ongoing dialogue with the Taliban is crucial for peace in the region.
By continuing to engage in such discussions, the regional quartet aims to address the security and humanitarian challenges in Afghanistan while working towards long-term stability in the region.
