THE BBC is “shameful” for refusing to label Hezbollah a terrorist organisation, Tory leadership hopeful Robert Jenrick blasted yesterday.
The frontrunner in the race to replace Rishi Sunak fumed at the national broadcaster for referring to the extremist organisation as simply a “Lebanese armed group”.
And he warned that the Beeb’s failure to “report facts accurately” will only further dent trust in the news outlet.
BBC journalists are barred from labelling both Hezbollah and Hamas terrorist organisations, despite both group being proscribed by the UK government.
Mr Jenrick told The Sun: “It’s time we called a spade a spade.
“Hezbollah are an armed terrorist militia intent on the destruction of Israel.
“It’s frankly shameful our national broadcaster can’t report the facts accurately.
“Each time this happens the BBC loses more of the trust of the British public.”
A BBC spokesperson said: “Our reporting is in line with our Editorial Guidelines, which are publicly available online.
“We have frequently reported that Hezbollah is proscribed as a terrorist organisation by the UK government.”
