Tropical Weather Latest: Helene weakens into a post-tropical cyclone as rescue efforts persist

Hurricane Helene has weakened into a post-tropical cyclone after making landfall overnight in northwestern Florida as a Category 4 storm. The storm has been blamed for at least 40 deaths, including 17 people in South Carolina. Authorities continue to rescue people trapped by floodwaters and millions are without power across much of the southeastern U.S. Tropical Storm John meanwhile made its second landfall along Mexico’s Pacific coast Friday. Forecasters said Tropical Storm Isaac strengthened on Friday into a hurricane in the open waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Tropical Storm Joyce also formed in the Atlantic on Friday morning.
