Everything You Need to Know About Ryan Reynolds' Wife, Blake Lively

0

Everyone knows Ryan Reynolds. Well, okay, knows of—whether as the assistant and faux fiancé to high-powered book editor Margaret Tate (Sandra Bullock) in The Proposal, as Deadpool, or from the many amusing interviews he's done with his Wolverine counterpart Hugh Jackman. Still, while he's undoubtedly one of America's favorite actors, some might argue he's nothing in comparison to his lovely wife, Blake Lively, whom people (genuinely) refer to as "America's sweetheart."

You've probably seen her in any number of films or TV shows. From her debut into Hollywood stardom in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants to her part as Miss Serena van der Woodson in Gossip Girl and her most recent (and might I add controversial) character Lilly Bloom in It Ends With Us, she's a household name.

Blake Lively's Net Worth

When you look at Blake Lively's career in its entirety, her net worth isn't exactly surprising. From her breakout role in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and her time on Gossip Girl where sources claim she made $60,000 per episode to her recent role in It Ends With Us, we have reason to believe she's made a pretty decent living for herselfWhile we can't be exactly sure what Lively's exact net worth is, Celebrity Net Worth puts it somewhere around the $30 million mark (though, of course, take that with a small helping of salt).

She Was Born Into a Hollywood Family

While she gives off the girl-next-door vibe, Lively is no stranger to the world of Hollywood. She was born in Los Angeles on August 25, 1987, and has spent the majority of her life in LA. Her father and mother came from Georgia to pursue their careers in the industry—her father was an actor and director, and her mother was a talent scout.

“I have a big, close, loving family, and they’re all from the South, but because so many of them are actors, everyone was very normal about it," she told Ben Affleck in Interview Magazine in 2010. "It was just like any job to them. They always came home and talked about it around the dinner table the way any family talks about work, but it wasn’t anything special."

Her Siblings Are in the Industry Too

Blake is the youngest of five siblings, all of whom have put in time in Hollywood. Her eldest sister Lori has been featured in the 1979 mystery The Double McGuffin, episodes of ERTwo and a Half Men, Cold Case, and more. Lori is still in the industry working in production design and as an acting coach. Her eldest brother, Jason, can be seen in films like The Dukes of Hazzard and National Lampoon’s European Vacation

Her sister Robyn is probably the most well-known next to Blake. She has made appearances in cult favorites like Teen Witch and The Karate Kid Part III, and she's also married to High School Musical's Bart Johnson, who played coach Bolton. The second-youngest of the Lively clan is Eric Lively, who can be seen in American Pie, A Madea Christmas, and more. Blake even credits Eric as being the one who got her into acting, stating in Interview magazine, “I did not want to be an actor because my whole family did it—going into the family business was the last thing I wanted to do. But then about a year later he was running lines with his friend and he talked me into going to this audition."

She Met Ryan Reynolds on the Set of Green Lantern

While the pair is well-known for their major TV and movie roles, they might be even more famous for their relationship—red carpet debuts and social media roasts included.

In today's day and age, so many Hollywood couples choose to keep their relationships under wraps. That's not the case with Ryan Reynolds and wife Blake Lively. In fact, their relationship has been pretty public since the time they linked up in 2010 for the superhero movie Green Lantern

At the time, both were in other relationships. Lively was dating Gossip Girl costar Penn Badgley and Reynolds was married to the even more famous Scarlett Johansen. A few months later, Lively and Badgley split after nearly three years of dating and in December of that same year, Reynolds and Johansson announced their separation. Coincidence? We think perhaps not.

In June 2011, the two walked the red carpet for Green Lantern together, but just as friends. No one was suspicious of their romance, as Lively was thought to be having a summer romance with Leonardo DiCaprio. With her seasonal fling over, Lively found herself back in contact with Reynolds.

The Pair Started Dating in 2011

The two found themselves on a double date, but with other people. Reynolds recounted the evening in a 2016 interview with Entertainment Weekly, stating, “For about a year Green Lantern had come and gone, we were both single,” he recalled. “We went on a double date; she was on a date with another guy, and I was on a date with another girl. That was the most awkward date for the respective parties because there was just fireworks coming across.”

After their failed double date in October of that year, People reported that the couple had been spotted on Reynolds' birthday weekend outside an apartment in Boston walking their two dogs. A source told the magazine “They are very much a couple. They’re really happy together.”

A few months later Lively spent part of the Christmas holiday with Reynolds' family at their home in Vancouver and just a month later the duo rang in the new year at Reynolds' private home in New Orleans.

Reynolds and Lively Got Married in 2012

In 2012, the couple tied the knot in a small ceremony just outside of Charleston, SC, with their closest friends and family in attendance. People described the bride as radiant in her vintage couture gown designed by Marchesa.

“When Ryan first saw her, his face broke into a huge smile that crinkled his eyes,” a source told People. “They just stared at each other with absolute love. Their faces were lit up with the candlelight, and it looked like something out of a romance movie.”

For the next two years, Lively and Reynolds' relationship was newlywed bliss. They went on romantic walks through the streets of Paris, made several red carpet appearances (including their first Met Gala where Lively stunned in a blush Gucci dress), and gushed about one another in nearly every interview they did.

Lively Gave Birth to Their First Child in 2014

In October 2014, Lively announced the couple were expecting their first child. Their daughter James was born prematurely in December of 2014 and the couple chose to keep it private until 2015 when Reynolds officially announced her name publicly.

“It's James. Everyone knows. I didn't want to be the first guy screaming it out to the media,” he said during an interview on the Today Show. “Because as we know, little girls turn into teenage girls and little teenage girls sometimes scan through the archives and go, ‘Why did you do that?’”

They Have Four Children Together

Since having their first daughter, James, in 2014, the couple has had three more children—Inez, Betty, and Olin. While they have kept their children's lives fairly private, their first and second daughters made an appearance alongside the couple as Reynolds accepted his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2016. And in 2019 their third daughter's name, Betty, was revealed to the public for the first time in friend Taylor Swift's song "Betty," alongside her sisters Inez and James. (Hey, Swift loves an Easter egg.)

In September 2022, Lively appeared at the Forbes Power Women's Summit rocking an adorable pregnant belly in a gold and nude mini dress. Shortly after, Lively shared her own pregnancy photos on Instagram in an effort to get the paparazzi to leave her alone.

"Here are photos of me pregnant in real life so the 11 guys waiting outside my home for a ???? sighting will leave me alone," she said in the post. "You freak me and my kids out. Thanks to everyone else for all the love and respect and for continuing to unfollow accounts and publications who share photos of children. You have all the power against them. And thank you to the media who have a “No Kids Policy”. You all make all the difference. Much love! Xxb."

Reynolds and Lively Are Major Jokers

Aside from the fame that has come from the duo's work, they are most well-known for the lighthearted nature of their relationship. For years, the couple has been known to troll one another on social media posts, in interviews, and more.

For example, in an interview on Late Night With David Letterman, the Deadpool actor spoke effusively about the love he had after the birth of his firstborn, James.

"I used to say to [Blake], 'I would take a bullet for you. I could never love anything as much as I love you,'" he said. "I would say that to my wife, and then the second I looked into that baby's eyes I knew in that exact moment if we were ever under attack, I would use my wife as a human shield to protect that baby."

And that interview is just the beginning of a string of hilarious roasts between the couple.

In 2018, a tabloid claimed their marriage was on the rocks and in true Ryan Reynolds fashion, he responded via Twitter saying, "I wish. I could use a little 'me time.'"

While Reynolds is usually the one doing most of the trolling, Lively is no stranger to throwing out a joke or two. While a lot of her Instagram posts joking about her hubby have been deleted, she did quip about having to watch Deadpool on a plane in an interview with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show.

"We're really good about keeping our family together," she told Fallon after he asked how the pair's Father's Day was. "We don't work at the same time—but we specifically weren't together on Father's Day. It was the first day that we missed together. I was on a plane with my baby James and it's kind of torture these days because I'm on a plane and everywhere I look the screen is my husband in a sex montage throughout the holidays, with another woman, because everyone wants to watch Deadpool on the plane. It's lovely, it's a cruel and unusual form of torture," she joked.

They're Both Philanthropists

While Reynolds and Lively love to joke, they take their philanthropy work very seriously. According to Us Weekly over the years the couple has raised millions of dollars for various organizations including NAACP Legal Defense Fund, the American Civil Liberties Union, the Canadian Charity Water First Education & Training Inc., the International Committee of the Red Cross, Feeding America, Food Banks Canada, and more.

In 2019, the couple also agreed to match dollar-for-dollar donations made to the Waymaker Fund for Immigrant Children’s Rights, a fund that provides independent volunteer child advocates for immigrant children in government custody.

“Over the last few years, our perspective has grown and we’ve realized we have to do everything possible to foster more compassion and empathy in this world," the pair said in a statement. "History’s being written right now. We’re grateful to give back to an organization who gives voice to so many.”
