Sports briefs: San Marin scores thriller over Marin Catholic tennis

San Marin girls tennis edged host Marin Catholic, 4-3, on Thursday, with solid wins from Clare Zhu and Deepti Bhat at No. 1 and 2 singles. Zhu beat the Wildcats’ Georgia Compagno, 6-1, 6-1. Bhat won 6-0, 6-1 over Payton Greco.

The Mustangs’ No. 3 doubles team of Julieta Exberger and Divya Lourd earned a dramatic 7-6 (3), 6-3 victory over the Wildcats’ Lindsay Lotter and Ruby Pisaturo.

Christine Zuber and Sienna Taylor earned singles wins for Marin Catholic.

• Tam High’s Maya Riisgaard came on strong in a 6-3, 6-0 victory at No. 1 singles over Terra Linda’s Kylie Lee on Thursday as the Red-tailed Hawks locked up a 7-0 victory. sierra Moglen, Annika Hakes and Natalie Popper also won for Tam.
• The Branson School swept singles play en route to a 6-1 victory over Archie Williams at College of Marin on Wednesday. The Bulls’ Mirabel Arlander, Katie Warrin, Paloma Vano-Rice and Alexa Warrin all won in straight sets. The Peregrine Falcons’ Delphina Dong and Samantha Dvorin teamed up for a 6-3, 4-6, (10-8) win at No. 3 doubles.
• Carly Amborn won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, but San Domenico fell to host Urban, 6-1, at Goldman Tennis Center in San Francisco on Wednesday.

College football

Marin Catholic grad Niki Prongos, a 2022 walk-on at UCLA, was awarded a scholarship by the Bruins recently. Prongos has impressed on the offensive line in two games this season, lining up on the right side. UCLA (1-2) is scheduled to host Oregon on Saturday.

Girls golf

Freshman Jordan Kelly shot her best round of the season with a 41 to lift Marin Academy past Urban, 178-217, at par 30 Fleming at Harding Park on Thursday. Sterling Colpitts shot a 45 for the Wildcats (6-2 BCL), while freshman Kelly Lundgren and junior Piper Marmer both finished at 46.

• Alessia Ducati continues to carry the banner for Tam High as the Red-tailed Hawks beat Archie Williams, 215-229, at Mill Valley Golf Course on Wednesday. Ducati shot a 49, followed by Alexandria Forbes (52) and Alya Koch-Bergen (53). Kaiya Chiu was the low medalist for the Peregrine Falcons with a 51, followed by Mirabelle Davis (53).
• Marin Catholic’s Lexi Ferguson earned low medalist honors at Marin Country Club on Thursday with a 47 in a three-way match. Marin Catholic carried the day with a 206 to beat Terra Linda (234) and Novato (252). Hailey Picetti (49) led Novato and Mia Schlotman (52) was the low scorer for Terra Linda.
• Taylor Bridges turned in a stellar round of 35 at Indian Valley to lead Redwood past host San Marin, 153-196 on Wednesday. The Mustangs’ Valentina Gudino shot a 45.
• Elizabeth Liu shot a 2-under par 34 at Peacock Gap as the Branson School beat Novato, 172-245, on Wednesday. Picetti shot a 52 for Novato.

Boys water polo

Ossie Joplin scored a game-high seven goals to lead Redwood High past Tam, 15-5, in Wednesday’s powerhouse showdown. Freshman Storm Jackson added four goals and Jakob Engberg had three for the Giants (8-0 overall, 3-0 MCAL). Lukas Knauer, Sawyer Goldberg and Colin Judson each netted a goal for the Giants (3-2,1-2).

Satya Shiller led Tam with a pair of third-period goals, while Jasper Feldman, Sammy Meleis and Wyatt Donaldson each scored once.

• Archie Williams beat San Marin, 17-4, on Thursday.
• Terra Linda scored a 13-7 victory over Novato on Thursday.

Girls water polo

Alina Noyes and Josephine Fetterman-Riggle scored four goals each as Terra Linda beat Novato, 17-1, on Thursday. Evelyn Noyes scored three goals for the Trojans, who also got two goals each from Elizabeth Berringer and Emily Erickson.

• Tam beat rival Redwood, 8-6, on Wednesday.

Women’s water polo

Anabelle Phillips found the back of the net six times and had five steals to lead College of Marin past San Francisco City College, 17-3, at Indian Valley on Wednesday. The Mariners’ Delaney Mannor scored on all four of her shots and Marlee Ostrom was 3-for-3 in her attack. Mariners goalie Marie Fehring made 13 saves.
