Tracker: Austin City Council attendance for 2024

AUSTIN (KXAN) -- KXAN is tracking Austin City Council attendance for you in 2024.

Why are we doing this?

In a story about Austin City Council Member Natasha Harper-Madison's lack of attendance, we found that other cities keep attendance, and even have attendance trackers.

Hutto city council members are forced to forfeit office if they miss five or more regular city council meetings in the span of 12 months, according to their city charter.

In Dallas, the city has an attendance tracker which says “to remain in good standing, the official must be present for at least a total of 90% of all assigned meetings.”

While council members have missed meetings for other important city business, going on parental leave or medical emergencies, we do believe it's important for you to have an overall picture of whether or not your elected officials are showing up to vote on your behalf.
