Community votes on new Fonda-Fultonville school logo
FONDA, N.Y. (NEWS10) - The Fonda-Fultonville Central School District is holding a vote Thursday night for their new logo design. All students, staff, and community members will vote on one of two options for their new Valley Hawks logo.
The vote will take place at the high school lobby. The new logo will take effect immediately.
The district was formerly called the Braves, but the Fonda-Fultonville district, like many other districts across the region, started this journey last year after the State Department of Education mandated them to phase out indigenous names and mascots.
Superintendent Dr. Richard DeMallie told NEWS10 what will happen next after the vote.
"The timeline pretty much has been set for when it comes to our uniforms, logos, and buildings," DeMallie said. "But the students are who will help us guide that process and our community members and groups that have been established before me; I will be going to them and will be looking at that rebranding process, as we move forward, especially with our students. I'll be looking to my student group, a student superintendent liaison group, and they're going to help me through the process as well."
The district said the final results will be shared by this Saturday.
