Doom and gloom surrounding Spurs

There has been plenty of alarmism among the Tottenham fan base and the media about the Lilywhites over the past few weeks, in light of their losses to Newcastle and Arsenal.

However, Ange Postecoglou has continued to remain adamant that his side are moving in the right direction. They served a remainder against Brentford on Saturday of just how devastating they can be when things click for them in front of goal.

While things have calmed down a bit since the 3-1 win over the Bees, it is fair to say that a lot of fans are yet to be convinced that Spurs can do something special this season, given their perceived defensive frailties.

Numbers paint a different picture

Lyall Thomas has now pointed to the metrics from Data MB, which shows that Tottenham have actually improved both defensively and offensively this season, although it is not quite reflected in the number of goals they have scored.

The report suggested that Postecoglou’s men have not got the results they deserved and opined that there is no need for panic at the moment.

The eye test bares out the numbers

One would have to say that the numbers presented by Data MB have also been borne out by the eye test so far, with Tottenham looking much more in control of matches than they did last season.

While a lot has been made about Spurs’ defensive issues, Arsenal hardly created any opportunities against the Lilywhites while barring a ten to 15-minute spell, Newcastle and Leicester also hardly touched the ball in Tottenham’s half.
