Jennifer Lopez Might Be Engaging in This Relatable Post-Breakup Activity Amid Ben Affleck Divorce

A-list celebrities aren’t always the most relatable because of their extraordinarily glamorous lifestyle. Their casual night out might include a Michelin-star dinner and a red carpet, but Jennifer Lopez might be proving that she’s one of us when it comes to a breakup. 

Amid her split from Ben Affleck, the 55-year-old superstar is reportedly enjoying some retail therapy — and she might be enjoying it too much. An In Touch Weekly source is claiming that Lopez is spending away some of her feelings and “throwing around money like she’s a billionaire right now, which just isn’t the case.” Her shopping spree, of course, includes a new home while she’s still trying to offload her family estate with Affleck.

The Beverly Hills property recently found a buyer for $64 million, but it fell out of escrow after the buyers had a family emergency, according to TMZ. Affleck and Lopez bought the home in May 2023 for $61.5 million, so with the renovations, realtor fees, and the 5.25% Los Angeles mansion tax, it’s likely to sell at a significant loss for them — if the sale ever goes through. 

The “Jenny From the Block” singer is eager to plant roots in a new space and has her eye on a well-known mansion that was formerly owned by the late fashion designer Max Azria. Curiously though, the residence is next door to ex-boyfriend Sean “Diddy” Combs, who is selling his home amid his legal troubles. She hopes to talk the seller down from $55 million to a slightly more reasonable $39 million, but her financial advisers reportedly have “told her that if she wants to stay that way, she needs to reign in her spending,” per In Touch Weekly. 

Outside of her home-buying situation, it sounds like she’s trying to cheer herself up with a few shiny new items.  “She’s treating herself to outrageous shopping sprees. She calls it retail therapy and says she needs it, but the bills are outrageous,” the source added. “She’s regularly spending a few $100,000 a day on designer clothes for her and her entourage. The way she’s hemorrhaging money right now is madness, but she says it makes her happy so it’s worth it — end of story.”

Lopez also might be trying to look her best for Affleck, who is reportedly playing a tug-of-war relationship game with her — even though the divorce is still happening. But if we can offer Lopez a little advice, it’s George Herbert’s famous quote: “Living well is the best revenge.” She doesn’t need her ex to have a happy and fulfilling life!
