EU provides €146 million aid to Afghanistan

0

The European Union is adding €146 million to the Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund to meet the basic and livelihood needs of the Afghan people.

On Wednesday, September 25, the European Union announced that this financial package would be allocated to essential services, including healthcare, education, and food security, and would focus on supporting the rights of women and girls.

Notably, this humanitarian aid to the people of Afghanistan was pledged during the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meeting.

This humanitarian assistance is being announced just three days after the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) stated that the Netherlands contributed €16.1 million to the Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund.

Previously, the European Union had also announced humanitarian aid for the people of Afghanistan.

However, aid organizations in Afghanistan have repeatedly warned of the growing humanitarian need and the reduction in funding.

This substantial financial commitment from the European Union is critical as many Afghan citizens face mounting challenges due to economic hardships and a lack of essential services.

The continued efforts of international donors like the EU are vital to addressing the people of Afghanistan’s immediate and long-term needs.

Despite these contributions, there remains a pressing need for sustained international attention and assistance to prevent further deterioration of living conditions, particularly for vulnerable groups such as women and children.
