Biver Automatique: Masterful Simplicity
Founded in 2023 by industry legend Jean-Claude Biver and his son Pierre, the Biver watch brand is dedicated to creating first-class luxury timepieces with in-house calibers, all produced in extremely limited quantities. Following the intricate Carillon Tourbillon Minute Repeater with two sophisticated complications, the brand introduces its first three-hand watch, aptly named Biver Automatique. The name is purposefully chosen to highlight the timeless minimalist elegance of the model. For those familiar with Jean-Claude Biver, simplicity is far from boring—it’s a manifestation of clarity and perfection. Inspired by Leonardo da Vinci’s philosophy that simplicity is the ultimate form of sophistication, every element of this timepiece reflects an uncompromising dedication to detail.
The two-tone dials, crafted from solid 18-karat rose and white gold, feature an array of handcrafted finishes. The 18-karat gold hands, hand-beveled to perfection, along with applied indices and the mirror-polished “Biver” logo at 12 o’clock, emphasize the refined simplicity of the design. The varied textures created by the concentric circles lend depth and dimension to the dial. Additionally, the delicate railway minute track along the outer edge offers further subtle detailing. Depending on the angle of the light, these artisanal finishes reveal their special charm, in harmony with traditional craftsmanship. The polished bezels enhance the watch’s striking elegance.
Encased in either rose gold or platinum, the watch measures 39mm in diameter and boasts a slim profile of 10mm. Its water-resistance is rated to a depth of 80 meters. Inside beats the new CB-003 manufacture caliber, developed in collaboration with Dubois-Dépraz. While the front of the watch celebrates pure minimalism, the automatic movement with a 65-hour power reserve and a zero-reset mechanism for precise time setting showcases the opulence of traditional descorations. The movement’s architecture features seven bridges designed to expose essential components in all their beauty. Every part is meticulously hand-finished, creating an aesthetic masterpiece. Enthusiasts will appreciate the hand beveled edges, black-polished surfaces, perlage, guilloché, and engravings.
“The JCB-003 caliber is a cornerstone upon which we are building the Biver brand,” says co-founder Pierre Biver. “From the very beginning, it was developed with high performance and exceptional decoration in mind. Our approach reflects a deep appreciation for movement architecture and a desire to unite the best of watchmaking artistry from past, present, and future. The creation of this caliber is the first step towards establishing a distinctive Biver timepiece.”
