A New York resident has died from eastern equine encephalitis, prompting Governor Kathy Hochul to declare the virus an imminent public health threat. This is the second U.S. death from the disease this year. The CDC has confirmed ten cases nationwide as of mid-September. There are no vaccines or treatments for EEE.
