Hot dog stand shootout leaves 1 dead, 1 critical in University Village
A shootout at a popular hot dog stand left one man dead and another critically wounded Tuesday night in the University Village neighborhood.
Around 10:30 p.m., occupants of a red car and dark-colored SUV were outside Jim’s Original, 1250 S. Union Ave., when they left their vehicles and began shooting at each other in the street, Chicago police said.
A man who was shot in his face was taken to Stroger Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.
A 19-year-old man who was shot in his face was dropped off at Rush Hospital and transferred to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, officials said.
No one was in custody in the attack; Area 3 detectives are investigating.
