Western Regional OTB set to offer Byron Brown a contract Thursday

0

BATAVIA, N.Y. (WIVB) -- Western Regional Off-Track Betting's personnel committee on Wednesday discussed the terms and conditions of the contract it will offer Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown to become the group's next president and CEO.

Members unanimously voted to offer Brown the position earlier this month. Since then, Brown has been undergoing negotiations with WROTB Chairman Dennis Bassett.

Wednesday’s meeting ended with the committee voting to bring the contract to a full vote, which is set to happen Thursday morning.

Brown, who's in his fifth term, is currently the longest serving mayor in the City of Buffalo’s history. He would need to step down to accept the role, succeeding current WROTB President Henry Wojtaszek, who recently accepted a six-figure buyout from the board.

It’s not clear if Brown will be present at Thursday’s meeting or when he plans on stepping down. To begin the new job, he needs to obtain a gaming license through New York State.

It’s also unclear if the exact details of the contract will be revealed immediately Thursday once the board votes on it.
