0

NEW YORK (PIX11) – Tropical Storm Helene was expected to hit Mexico and Cuba on Wednesday as it tracked north toward the U.S., according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

The storm could strengthen into a hurricane before it makes landfall, officials said. A hurricane warning is in effect for parts of Florida, where Helene is predicted to hit Thursday with heavy rain and damaging winds. Residents in 10 Florida counties were urged or ordered to evacuate ahead of the storm.

But will Tropical Storm Helene hit New York?

After hitting Florida, Tropical Storm Helene is projected to climb up the U.S. to parts of Missouri, Illinois, Tennessee, Kentucky and Indiana by the weekend.

It's not expected to hit New York, but the state may see cloudy skies and breezy conditions, according to PIX11 meteorologists.

Helene could bring up to 10 inches of rainfall to states it's expected to hit, meteorologists said.
