TOPEKA (KSNT) - President Joe Biden is granting a request for federal disaster assistance to Kansas Wednesday following summer storm damage across the state.

Jane Welch with the Adjutant General's Department said in a press release that Biden is granting Governor Laura Kelly's earlier request for help in repairing storm damage caused in multiple Kansas counties from June 26 to July 7. Damage came from tornadoes, straight-line winds and flooding.

“I am grateful that this request for federal assistance has been approved,” Kelly said. “These federal funds will go a long way in supporting the restoration work by those in counties impacted by the storms.”

This declaration also activates the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program across the state for actions taken to prevent or reduce long term risk to life and property from natural hazards.
