Final 7 p.m. sunset in Portland until March

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- Summer heat is fading around Portland as earlier sunsets and wet weather returns Wednesday.

Portland will see the final 7 p.m. sunset of the year Wednesday, September 25, 2024. Portland won't see another 7 p.m. sunset until March 9, 2025. Sunsets will continue to get earlier until the winter solstice on December 21, 2024.

Sunrise hours are also on the move across the northern hemisphere as they become later in the morning the next month or so. This comes as Portland experienced its first 7 a.m. hour sunrise of the season Tuesday, September 24, 2024. Sunrise hours will return to the 6 a.m. after Standard Time returns in November.
