‘The fight everybody still wants to see’: Bellew on Fury vs Joshua
Tony Bellew still sees big interest in Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua next year.
Tony Bellew is one of many who figure that even with Anthony Joshua having lost to Daniel Dubois last weekend, there will still be plenty of interest in a fight between Joshua and longtime press rival Tyson Fury.
And Bellew doesn’t see any outcome for Fury’s December rematch with Oleksandr Usyk that will change that, either — and he expects Usyk to repeat.
“You can never say a man’s fully out. Tyson Fury’s a really good fighter, and he’s just unfortunate to come across one of the greatest fighters the world’s ever seen in Oleksandr Usyk,” Bellew told AceOdds.
“To say he’s finished after a loss would be very, very harsh. If he loses against Usyk again, which I think he will, does that mean we don’t want to see him fight Anthony Joshua? In my opinion, that’s the fight that still everybody wants to see. It’s a huge fight for Great Britain and for the world of heavyweight boxing.
“I think the Wilder fight [for Joshua] is the one that took the most damage after the way [Wilder has] been beaten in his last two bouts, but as for Fury, unless he gets absolutely blasted out of there by Usyk, I think everyone still likes the sound of the AJ fight.”
Joshua (28-4, 25 KO) has a rematch clause to face Dubois again, while Fury (34-1-1, 24 KO) has flirted with retirement before and could do so again no matter what happens in December.
But there will be money available for Fury and Joshua in 2025, and it would absolutely still sell a ton of tickets.
