Tajikistan’s President calls on global community to prevent humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan

0

The President of Tajikistan, on Tuesday, addressed the 79th United Nations General Assembly, urging the international community to help prevent a humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan.

He emphasized that Tajikistan supports lasting peace and stability in Afghanistan.

Emomali Rahmon expressed Tajikistan’s willingness to participate in the recovery and development of various sectors in Afghanistan and pledged his nation’s support.

He added, “We support the establishment of lasting peace and stability, as well as the economic and social development of Afghanistan.”

The Tajik president also called on the international community to spare no effort in assisting the suffering people of Afghanistan, particularly in regions affected by natural disasters, to prevent the country from sliding into a humanitarian crisis.

Tajikistan remains one of the nations most concerned about Afghanistan’s situation. Dushanbe is the only capital in the region that does not maintain diplomatic relations with the Taliban. The country is particularly worried about the spread of terrorism and extremism in Afghanistan.

Tajik officials have repeatedly voiced concerns over the threats emanating from Afghanistan’s territory. However, in his speech, the President made no direct mention of the Taliban or their support for Central Asian jihadist militants, which could indicate an improvement in relations between Dushanbe and the Taliban.

The ongoing instability in Afghanistan poses significant security risks for neighboring countries like Tajikistan. Without effective international cooperation and humanitarian aid, the challenges facing Afghanistan will continue to spill over into the region, potentially escalating violence and extremism.

Global powers must take swift and coordinated actions to assist Afghanistan in achieving peace and preventing further human suffering.
