Companies fined for breaking health and safety law
Two companies have been fined a total of €5,500 for violations of the law on health and safety at work, the Labour Inspection Department announced on Wednesday.
The Nicosia district court fined Ace Leonidou Constructions Ltd €4,000 for failing to place an appropriate, durable cover over an opening on the first floor of a building and protective railings around the opening to prevent people from falling in.
This resulted in an employee of the company falling through the hole and dropping 3.7 metres, resulting in injury.
The company also failed to take preventive and protective measures during works.
The court also fined J&P and J&P-Avax JV – Qatar Building €1,500 for failing to place an appropriate, durable cover over an opening on the first floor of a building and protective railings around the opening to prevent people from falling in.
