Sports Briefs: Greenbrae rower Jett earns national honor
Greenbrae’s Charlotte Jett has been named to the 2024 USRowing Under 19 National Team Female Athlete of the Year.
A two-time U19 National Team member, Jett sat six seat in the women’s eight, which won gold in St. Catharines, Canada. Jett and her crew dominated their race, winning by open water. Last year, she raced in the women’s eight that finished just .10 seconds off the podium at the 2023 U19 World Championships in Paris, France.
Jett, a member of the Marin Rowing Association, said in a press release, “I am so honored. I have such deep admiration for all of the athletes I got to train alongside these past three summers. From being cut from the team in 2022 to winning a gold medal and being recognized by teammates in 2024 is so incredible. This past summer was an experience of a lifetime. It wouldn’t have been possible without the support of the USRowing staff, or my coach, Caitlin McClain.”
“To my teammates, I am so grateful for your relentless energy and positive attitude. The friendships I made this summer will be ones I cherish forever. I would like to thank my coach from back home, Sandy Armstrong, who pushed me to not only focus on my growth as an athlete but also as a person. To my parents, who have always offered me endless support. And to my two brothers, Will and Tommy, who have only helped foster a deeper love for this sport. Thank you to everyone who made this possible.”
Jett and Male Athlete of the Year Tyler Murphy will be recognized on Attager Row at the Head of the Charles on Saturday, October 19 at 5 p.m.
