New Delhi: Ravichandran Ashwin was the star of the show in Chennai with a century and a match-winning six-wicket haul in the first Test against Bangladesh last week. The 38-year-old will once again be on the limelight at the Green Park stadium in Kanpur in the second Test, starting on September 27. The veteran all-rounder smashed his sixth Test hundred and formed a crucial 195-run stand with Ravindra Jadeja before dismantling the whole Bangladesh batting on the fourth day to win India the game.

In Kanpur, Ashwin will be on the brink of several records.

  • Ravichandran Ashwin is already the highest wicket-taker among the Indians in the fourth innings in Test cricket with 99 scalps. The off-spinner just needs one more wicket to become the first Indian and sixth overall to reach 100 Test wickets in the fourth innings.
  • Ravichandran Ashwin is just three wickets shy of becoming the highest wicket-taker against Bangladesh in Tests. Zaheer Khan tops the list of Indians with 31 wickets. If he surpasses Zaheer, Ashwin will also become the highest wicket-taker in Tests between India and Bangladesh.
  • Ravichandran Ashwin is currently the second-highest wicket-taker in the World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle. He needs just four more wickets to surpass Australia’s Josh Hazlewood as the leader of the chart.
  • Last week Ravichandran Ashwin equaled legendary Shane Warne for most number of five-wicket hauls in Tests at 37. He just needs one more fifer to eclipse Warne.
  • With 180 wickets, Ravichandran Ashwin is the second-highest wicket-taker in WTC history. Australian Nathan Lyon sits on top with 187 wickets.
  • Ravichandran Ashwin needs nine more wickets to become the seventh highest wicket-taker in Test cricket. Ashwin (522) is behind Nathan Lyon (530).
