The rising demand for Indian whisky has been largely fueled by domestic consumption, with Indian single malts accounting for nearly 53% of total alcohol sales in 2023, according to a report by the Confederation of Indian Alcoholic Beverage Companies. While a majority of consumers opt for affordable blends like McDowell’s No. 1 Reserve and Royal Stag, a niche market for high-end, limited-edition bottles is also growing.

One such exclusive offering is released by Radico Khaitan, the makers of Magic Moments and Chivas Regal in India, this whisky sets a new benchmark in the Indian whisky market. The Rampur Signature Reserve Single Malt Whisky holds the title of India’s most expensive whisky. Released as a limited-edition series in 2018, only 400 bottles were produced, with just two remaining unsold. The whisky’s hefty price tag is justified by its rarity, premium craftsmanship, and appeal to connoisseurs who seek luxury and exclusivity in their spirits.

Earlier this year on April 29, Radico Khaitan had announced that Rampur Signature Reserve Single Malt Whisky has achieved a historic milestone as the only Indian whisky selling at Rs 5 lakhs per bottle. The special edition limited premium whisky was introduced in commemoration of Rampur Distillery’s 75th anniversary. The super luxury variant of Rampur Indian single malt whisky was introduced in the international market.

Rampur Signature Reserve Single Malt Whisky taste and ageing

The Rampur Signature Reserve Single Malt Whisky is an ultra-luxury offering from India, crafted with meticulous attention to detail. Initially aged in four American oak barrels, it was later transferred to a single Pedro Ximénez (PX) sherry butt for the final phase of maturation, a process that enhances its depth and complexity.

The whisky boasts a sophisticated aroma, marked by hints of PX sherry, honey, toffee, vanilla, cinnamon, dried fruits, and oak. On the palate, it delivers a rich medley of flavors, dominated by notes of sultanas, toffee, Christmas pudding, and burnt cinnamon. The finish is long and lingering, characterized by dried fruits and a warm, oaky spiciness, making it a sought-after choice among whisky connoisseurs for its luxurious and complex profile.
