Louisiana Secretary of State embarks on statewide tour to meet with local election officials

LOUISIANA (KLFY) -- As the highly anticipated presidential election approaches, Louisiana Secretary of State Nancy Landry is actively touring the state to meet with local election officials.

Landry embarks on the statewide tour to meet with local election officials, gather feedback, and promote the safety, security and accuracy of Louisiana elections.

"Despite what you may hear, our election equipment is never connected to the Internet, and it's kept under lock and key when we're not using it," Landy said.

According to Landry, Louisiana is nationally ranked in the top ten in election integrity. The Louisiana Secretary of State attributes the ranking to what she calls the four P's: People, Policies, Procedures, and the Physical security of election equipment.

"Only our people ever touch our equipment, and they program it and do the maintenance on it," Landry said.

Landry explains that the highest turnout is always during a presidential election. The anticipation is for a 68 -71% turnout.

November's election will be Landry's first presidential election as secretary of state.

"I was with the secretary of state's office before, so I'm ready. Like I told people when I was running, I will be ready to hit the ground running, and I have been," Landry said.

During election season, there are often many rumors circulating.  Landry advises getting election information from the Secretary of State's website, the Geaux-Vote mobile app, the Clerk of Court, or the Registrar of Voters.

"Only get your information from trusted election sources, and you can't go wrong if you do that," Landry said.
