Full Duke Schedule Released!
As basketball season draws ever closer
The full Duke Basketball schedule was released Tuesday night and here it is:
It’s a normal schedule but Jon Scheyer has a very promising team and is going to challenge them. Arizona State is an exhibition, but that’s not a normal exhibition team.
Maine is on the schedule primarily for Cooper Flagg, his family and friends. As we saw when he signed with New Balance, the ties run deep.
Army is a semi-regular on the schedule, at least since Mike Krzyzewski took over in 1980.
Kentucky is part of the Champions Classic. Wofford is a typical early-season game. Duke will be heavily favored.
Arizona and Kansas back to back will be tough. We aren’t really up to speed on Seattle so we’ll come back to that one. Auburn, under Bruce Pearl, will be a real challenge and then it’s Louisville for Pat Kelsey’s ACC debut.
Incarnate Word kind of sticks out. It’s a guy game obviously but seems like an earlier season game. One name here sticks out: TJ Ford Jr. His dad was a very good player at Texas and in the NBA.
It may be a good fit because it’s near exams or maybe Scheyer is friends with coach Shane Heirman, who is about the same age as Scheyer and from the Chicago area.
We don’t know but it’s an interesting game from early December.
ACC play starts in earnest after that. The home-and-home games will be with UNC, Wake Forest and Miami.
The home games only will be vs. Cal, Florida State, N.C. State, Notre Dame, Pitt, Stanford and Virginia Tech, while the road games will be against Boston College, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Louisville, SMU, Syracuse and Virginia.
Cal and Stanford might seem like a break, but we’d rather play them on the road in their first season. By next year, they’ll have a better understanding and upsets will be more likely.
Duke has had some really tough games at Virginia Tech and NC State in recent years, so getting them at home is a break but Clemson at Clemson is never easy, which is one reason why we’re really looking forward to seeing Kentucky play in Littlejohn.
It’s an historic season for the Tigers, who will see Kentucky, Duke and UNC come through -and Duke and UNC are back to back on February 8th and 10th.
