Gamethread: Angels at White Sox
Tonight’s the night — probably!
Happy rainy afternoon, White Sox friends. The moment has (probably) arrived tonight; the White Sox are likely to lose their 121st game against the exponentially better, yet objectively horrible Angels.
What if the South Siders win tonight? Well, they’ll have five games after tonight to break the worst record in modern baseball history, so don’t fret.
The White Sox have allowed the most runs, and have scored the least. That won’t change, so this inevitable record only serves to cement the 2024 misery that we as fans have endured.
Here’s your lineup:

Jonathan Cannon (1-5, 4.25 ERA at home) has the pressure on him, as he surely doesn’t want his name tattooed into the annals of history. He recorded a win the last time he faced the Angels, and the offense exploded for him, scoring eight runs. He’s also been a streak-buster, stepping up as necessary when the ball’s been handed to him and the pressure of, say, a 21-game losing streak sat on his shoulders.
The Angels haven’t been posting their Twitter lineup graphic, so we’ll go old school. Jack Kochanowicz (2-5, 4.56 ERA) is struggling to the same degree as his counterpart foe, and hopes to secure his third win of the season tonight.
The Angels have the humiliation of a worse record than the gutted Oakland A’s, and probably have more to fight for tonight. Both the White Sox and the Angels have experienced an unanticipated fall from grace over the past few years, so don’t expect too much from either team, as neither have anything to lose.
First pitch is at 6:40 p.m. CST on NBC Sports Chicago, or if you don’t want to listen to John Schriffen getting World Series-level hyped over a scoreless double, tune into AM 1000.
