Free paint recycling program coming to Glens Falls
GLENS FALLS, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- In partnership with GreenSheen, a paint recycling business in Rotterdam, the City of Glens Falls and the Warren County Department of Public Works are hosting a paint collection day on October 12. The event will be held at East Field, 175 Dix Avenue, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Paint, when recycled, can be made into new paint. In 2022, New York became a Paint Steward State, committing to recycling paint in collaboration with manufacturers, retailers and recyclers; this event is just one example.
GreenSheen will oversee this collection, during which unused paints and urethanes are accepted to be recycled into new paint. GreenSheen Paint has diverted over 50 million pounds of paint from landfills through their nationwide network of retailers and recycling facilities.
GreenSheen will collect and recycle the following items (containers must be intact, not leaking, and must have original manufacturer label):
- Interior and Exterior architectural paints (latex, acrylic, water-based, oil-based, enamel, alkyd)
- Deck coatings, floor paints (including elastomeric)
- Primers, Sealers and Undercoaters
- Stains
- Shellacs, Sealers, Varnishes, Urethanes
- Waterproofing concrete/masonry/wood sealers and repellants
- Metal coatings, Rust Preventatives
- Field and lawn paints
Items not accepted:
- Aerosols
- Paint thinners, mineral spirits, solvents
- Auto and Marine Paint
- Art and Craft Paint
- Caulking compounds, epoxies, glue and adheasives
- Paint additives, colorants, tints and resins
- Empty Containers
- Leaking Containers
- Driveway sealer

The collection event is open to anyone, regardless of their residency, in a drive-through fashion. Event staff will direct cars to drop-off lanes where staff will unload items.
Pre-registration for the event is highly recommended. To reserve a spot at a specific time, visit the Warren County website or register through this link.
