Guglielmo Vicario sent a cryptic message on social media on Sunday after seeing Ederson blocked off for Arsenal’s second goal at Manchester City.

There has been a lot said and written about Vicario’s handling of set-pieces, with many accusing the Tottenham man of not being strong enough to claim the ball when he has men around him.

The Spurs number one was accused of the same when Gabriel Magalhaes scored in the North London Derby two weeks ago, with some feeling that he could have dealt with the cross.

The Tottenham star has now seemingly reacted to an incident involving another goalkeeper after Ederson complained about being blocked off on Sunday.

What happened to Ederson and why did Vicario react?

Gabriel found the back of the net for the second game running at the Etihad Stadium, putting the Gunners in front towards the end of the first half by nodding home Bukayo Saka’s corner.

Ederson appeared to be blocked off by Gabriel Martinelli from getting to the cross but referee Michael Oliver and VAR did not believe he had committed a foul.

This has garnered a sarcastic response from Vicario, who took to Instagram stories to post a shoulder-shrug emoji. The Spurs shot-stopper appears to be questioning why keepers are not being protected.

Vicario knows that he cannot rely on protection from referees, particularly now that he has a reputation for struggling to come for crosses.

He has to find a method to deal with set pieces with help from his teammates. The first problem is that Spurs are losing the first headers, the second problem is that Vicario isn’t in a position to help either.
