James Maddison is back to his best at Spurs

Maddison has started the season in fine form and has arguably been Tottenham’s best player so far this campaign.

However, the 27-year-old’s displays perhaps did not get the recognition they deserved due to the results that Ange Postecoglou’s men were getting.

On Saturday, the former Leicester City man took the bull by the horns and delivered a complete performance, dropping into midfield and helping Spurs progress the ball up the pitch time and again.

Brentford struggled to get near the England international, who was also at his creative and enterprising best around the box, being unlucky not to pick up a couple of assists.

However, Maddison did make a defining contribution in the final third, scoring the goal that sealed the result for his side in the 85th minute with a lovely dinked finish after being played through on goal.

James Maddison sets new dribbling benchmark

According to WhoScored, the attacking midfielder completed a total of seven successful dribbles on Saturday, which is the most any player has in a match this season.

Spurs Web Opinion

When one thinks of Maddison, his dribbling is not what immediately comes to mind but the 27-year-old is quite an underrated ball carrier.

His quick feet, awareness of space and his balance make up for his lack of pace, with the midfielder being extremely skilled at creating half a yard for himself.
