Heung-min Son opens up on ‘really sad’ situation with Brennan Johnson at Spurs
Son Heung-min admits that he felt really sad knowing what Brennan Johnson was going through but insists that he had no doubt that the winger would turn things around and showcase his qualities.
Brennan Johnson has had a tough two weeks
Johnson has certainly given a befitting response to his critics, having found the back of the net in Tottenham’s last two matches against Coventry City and Brentford.
The 23-year-old, who has received a lot of vitriol on social media over recent weeks, will hope that he has turned a corner and can build on these performances.
Ange Postecoglou has kept faith in the pacy wide-man through his barren spell and the Australian’s persistence is now starting to be rewarded, with the Wales international looking much more confident and sure of himself against the Bees than he did in the first few games of the season.
The home fans also got behind Johnson on Saturday, with the winger reportedly getting a huge cheer before kick-off and also having his name sung by the supporters (Football.London).
Heung-min Son opens up on Johnson controversy
Son admitted that everyone at the club is thrilled for the former Nottingham Forest man after what he went through.
When asked about the abuse that his teammate has received online, the Tottenham captain said (via journalist Gun Lee for Sport Chosun 21/09/24): “The situation with Brennan has been just sad, really. He’s a really young player, and it’s really sad when someone’s feelings and performances are affected negatively by what he had to suffer off the pitch.
“But Brennan was able to battle it because he is someone with a strong mentality, a strong heart. He is a very, very nice kid and works harder than anyone. So I think every player was so happy to see him score and perform well today. I hope Brennan really enjoys today and has the happiest day anyone can have.”
Spurs Web Opinion
The only time that it is ever justified to have a go at a player is if there is a lack of effort or commitment, which has never been the case with Johnson.
However, it was proven on Saturday that it is just a vocal minority of fans online who peddle this kind of hate and that the vast majority of supporters are fully behind the winger.
