Bruins’ Jim Montgomery Has Clear Message For Fabian Lysell

Bruins prospect Fabian Lysell will be playing in his second preseason game when the Black and Gold host the Washington Capitals at TD Garden on Tuesday night.

Lysell is expected to be a candidate for the Boston roster, but the 21-year-old forward failed to register a shot on goal in 14:56 minutes of ice time in the Bruins preseason loss to the New York Rangers on Sunday. Lysell had one shot missed the net and another was blocked by Rangers defenseman Victor Mancini in the third period. The Sweden native did have one hit but also had two giveaways in the loss.

Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery admitted he doesn't know Lysell well enough to say the prospect is a slow starter, but he did say he expects more from him on the ice.

"He needs to do a little more than he's done if he wants to make the Bruins," Montgomery told reporters after pregame skate at Warrior Ice Arena on Tuesday, per team-provided video. "That would be the case for most people that played (Sunday) night."

Lysell is slated to skate on the right wing with center Jaxon Nelson and left wing Riley Tufte against the Capitals.

Both Bruins player development coordinator Adam McQuaid and Providence coach Ryan Mougenel said in July's development camp that they believe Lysell has taken huge steps in his development and could make a "push" for an NHL job. He just has to show Montgomery he can compete at the NHL level.
