A vibrant second half performance saw Queen's Park B open their Reserve League Cup Group campaign with a 5-0 win over Hamilton Academical Reserves

Goals from new recruit Reece Evans, Timam Scott, who grabbed a double, Lennon Connolly and Magnus Mackenzie won the day.

Former Leicester City striker Evans was included in the young Black and Whites line-up and Sean Crighton’s side got off to a fast start with Ross McLean slipping a pass to Scott on the right with the winger’s subsequent shot blocked.

On seven minutes Max Fiddes sent Mackenzie galloping 20 yards down the other wing with his sizzling cross flashing along the six-yard line with no takers.

Accies’ youngsters threatened for the first time with quarter of an hour gone when MacKenzie Strachan twisted and turned at the edge of the home side’s box before having a shot charged down.

Four minutes later Darryl Carrick met a Fiddes corner from the right with a header that just cleared the bar.

Midway through the opening half a strong aerial challenge from McLean allowed Scott to get on the ball and charge towards the visitors’ goal with his through ball to the attacking Fiddes just overhit.

On 26 minutes Scott was fouled in full flight an inch outside of the Hamilton box and Fiddes took the dead ball that cleared the far post with Queen’s going close again shortly afterwards when a Carrick header was cleared from the goal line.

Ten minutes from the break a sprinting Scott looked to be fouled again just outside of the box however experienced whistler Steven McLean opted to wave play on.

The winger put that behind him and almost opened the scoring just before half-time when he darted in from the right wing and fired for goal only for his shot to miss the far post.

Two minutes into the restart Fiddes found Carrick with another corner with the defender just off target again with Carrick excelling at the other end within seconds, along with Michael Collie, to snuff out the danger that was created when Lewis Hodgkiss was released.

Josiah Sowa enjoyed a bright start to the second half and on 50 minutes he showed his blistering pace before cutting a ball back to Evans who fired over.

On 53 minutes Scott hit the touch-line on the right and this time EVANS was on target as he turned Scott’s reverse pass into the Accies net from close range.

Six minutes later Scott picked up a kick-out from visiting shot-stopper Josh Lane and ran in one on one with the shot-stopper who sent him crashing to the turf to concede a penalty.

SCOTT dusted himself down and found the net from 12 yards to make it 2-0 to the young Spiders.

Lane made up for conceding the penalty just after the hour mark with a fine stop from Aiden McGinlay who had worked himself into a close-range shooting position.

With 69 minutes played SCOTT scored his second when he was perfectly placed to turn home a cut-back from substitute Lennon Connolly.

A minute from the end replacement Jamie Bradley fired a ball into the Hamilton box that was met by a sliding Mackenzie who brought out a super diving stop from Lane.

As the clock turned 90 a Mackenzie cross was cleared to the edge of the box where Connolly drilled it back into the net with a low shot.

Two minutes into injury time it became 5-0 when Bradley crossed from the right and Mackenzie got the goal he deserved with a sharp side-foot finish from eight yards out.
